What Are Pysanky?
Pysanky (pronounced pih-sahn-kih) are Ukrainian batik dyed eggs. The designs are made by writing with liquid wax on the shell and then submerging the egg in dye. Alternating wax and dye produces layers of colors that are revealed by melting the wax at the end.
Pysanky have been made in Ukraine since time immemorial, originating in pagan tradition and shifting with the advent of Christianity, becoming Easter eggs that we’re familiar with today.

All eggs used for pysanky are either locally sourced from farms in Seattle and the surrounding areas, or from grocery store brands marked with the “Certified Humane” logo.
A portion of any proceeds from workshops and commissioned work will be donated to relief funds for victims of the war in Ukraine.
